About your role:

As a key member of the Data Engineering team, you will design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and models. Your work will support Data Analysts, Management Information teams, and Data Science initiatives by ensuring data integrity, availability, and accessibility. This role offers the chance to shape data infrastructure that informs critical business decisions and innovative solutions.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Data Pipeline Development: Create and implement ETL pipelines for integrating data from diverse sources into British Gas Data Estate.
  • Data Product Engineering: Collaborate with Data Analysts and Data Scientists to develop analytics and machine learning solutions.
  • Data Quality: Conduct audits and validation to ensure data accuracy and reliability.
  • Data Architecture: Design and maintain data infrastructure to meet organizational needs.
  • Optimization: Improve data retrieval and storage performance while controlling costs.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical assistance and resolve data system issues.
  • Documentation: Keep detailed records of procedures and best practices for continuous improvement.

What we’re looking for:

  • Extensive expertise in data engineering with proven experience in scalable data pipelines and models, strong data modelling and warehousing skills.
  • Proficiency in cloud services and tools such as AWS, Azure, Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Hadoop, and Spark.
  • Programming skills in Python, PySpark, and Scala.
  • Experience mentoring less experienced Data Engineers, guiding their technical growth.
