Job Summary
As the Assistant Data Protection Adviser (Assistant DPA) you will be the individual who supports the Headquarters Defence Medical Services Group (HQ DMS Gp) in ensuring that Data Protection issues within the organisations are addressed correctly and that personal data is properly protected and processed in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018.
Sitting within the Chief Digital Information Office (CDIO) function, the role is part of the Knowledge and Information Management (KIM) team where disciplines such as Information Management/Assurance, Data Protection, Records and Knowledge Management are managed. The role also works with the DMS Cyber function in the delivery of safe and compliant Applications and Information Systems. As part of the team, you will work in partnership to deliver the overall Information Compliance function.
The Defence Medical Services offer hybrid working. The HQ and primary location for the DMS is Lichfield. Other base locations may be available depending on business need and whether the location can accommodate additional personnel on site.
Strategic Command Transformation

Job Description

Supporting the Principle DPA (PDPA), Senior DPA (Snr DPA)and Chief Digital Information Officer (CDIO), the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) Data Protection (DP) compliance framework will be the key delivery methodology to measuring DP Maturity.
The role offers the opportunity to fully develop your skills in the Data Protection Profession and in addition to build expertise in the wider KIM and Cyber functions whilst extending understanding of the National Health Service (NHS) and Caldicott Guardianship

Person specification
The duties and responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:
- Monitor compliance regarding Data Protection legislation, by maintaining a programme of risk-based assurance support.
- In liaison with Snr DPA, provide guidance to HQ DMS Gp staff about their obligations pursuant to the Data Protection Act 2018 and other legislation, ensuring service delivery is balanced with compliance. Document advice given.
- Assist in the development of relationships with the DMS Caldicott Guardian(s) and wider DMS single services expanding the wider community of interest in line with HQ DMS Gp functional authority.
- Assist in the review and maintenance of HQ DMS Data Protection Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Guides ensuring the Higher Level Budget (HLB) remains compliant with the DPA 18 and MOD/Top Level Budget (TLB) Policies
