You must be motivated by the impact of your work and have the drive to consistently deliver thoughtful and creative material that elevates our journalism.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively source and deliver high-quality stories — either in full or in part — that align with Volant’s editorial objectives.
  • Research and prepare story treatments in advance, ensuring accuracy, impartiality and relevance to our audience.
  • Produce live story set-ups, news sequences, interviews, backgrounders, features, packages, analysis and discussions.
  • Research, write, translate and adapt content between English and Dari or Farsi.
  • Adapt digital-first content for use in TV bulletins, ensuring editorial and visual coherence.
  • Work closely with Correspondents to ensure their reporting meets editorial objectives.
  • Collaborate with Video Editors to ensure packages meet the highest editorial and presentation standards.
  • Present or anchor TV content and film/edit material when required.
  • Carry out other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Recent and relevant broadcast news or multimedia journalism experience.
  • Significant experience producing news content and visual sequences for TV or digital platforms.
  • Proven ability to write to pictures and commission and produce effective graphics.
  • A track record of writing clearly and succinctly for television news.
  • Ability to craft news sequences that meet editorial requirements and fit bulletin structures and newsroom workflows.
  • Strong research and organisational skills, with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Confidence working with Video Editors and critiquing visual content constructively.
  • Excellent editorial judgement and a thorough understanding of media law, including defamation and copyright.
  • Results-driven, with a proven ability and desire to deliver impactful content to air.
  • Awareness of budgets and a commitment to cost-effective planning.
  • A wide and up-to-date knowledge of Iranian, Afghan and international affairs with the ability to turn that into original stories.
  • Deep understanding of Iranian and Afghan politics, culture, history, sport and social issues, and how audience needs are evolving.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in Farsi/Dari and English, with the ability to write, translate and adapt material accurately and at speed.
  • Excellent contacts within Iran/Afghan and the Iranian/Afghanistan diaspora across politics, culture, social issues, business and sport.
  • A clear, broadcast-suitable voice and presentation ability — training can be provided, but prior experience is desirable.
  • Ability to produce or report from the field when required.
  • A collaborative, can-do attitude and the ability to support and motivate colleagues when needed.
  • Commitment to Volant Media’s editorial policy and values.
