Position: Experimental Test Strategy Engineer (Full Time)

Location: Derby

The Experimental Engineering team owns the strategy for all Experimental Verification and Validation capabilities within the business, supporting in-service boats, future projects, and new technologies. We seek a proactive individual to join the test capability and strategy area, ensuring test facilities at Rolls-Royce Submarines and externally meet current and future data needs. The role involves investigating and determining data requirements, collection methods, and generation locations.

As a central cross-project role, the Experimental Test Strategy Engineer gains visibility of multiple project demands, guiding the deployment and development of testing and measurement technologies.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and manage long-term roadmaps for testing capabilities and facilities, including thermal hydraulic, high-fidelity measurement, acoustic, and other testing areas.
  2. Coordinate with capability areas to ensure testing needs are met now and in the future, focusing on test, measurement, and data capabilities.
  3. Serve as the primary contact for incoming test requests, engaging stakeholders and integrating requirements into technical plans.
  4. Create initial testing solutions, capturing requirements, developing testing options, and leading their endorsement.
  5. Collaborate with internal teams and external organizations, including university research centers, on experimental techniques and projects.
Candidate Profile

  • A degree or equivalent in engineering or a science-based field.
  • Experience in strategy and capability development and implementation.
  • Experience in conducting experimental testing supporting technical development or verification & validation.
  • Knowledge of measurement techniques, methods, and accuracies.
  • Understanding of the Submarine Enterprise and testing within V&V processes.
  • Strong interpersonal, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work within Rolls-Royce processes and adhere to health, safety, and environmental standards.
Additional Requirements

Applicants must hold UK nationality and a valid Security Check (SC) clearance, with Rolls-Royce supporting the clearance process if needed. Dual nationals require additional background checks.
