Salary: £29,870.00 per annum

Type: Permanent, Full Time, 40 hours per week (various shifts, including On-Call on a rota basis)

At Oakhill Secure Training Centre, we care for young people aged 12 to 18 who have been remanded or sentenced to detention. These vulnerable young people often have complex social and emotional needs. Our environment demands high standards of social care and service delivery to provide a secure space for young people to develop life skills and address behaviors that led them into custody.

We work closely with Youth Custody Services to ensure our regimes reflect best practices in residential care to prevent offending.

An opportunity has arisen for a Semi-Skilled Engineer to join our Facilities Management Team.

The successful candidate will work across various disciplines to maintain and repair assets, building fabric, services, and utilities at the Centre, under the guidance of the G4S Facilities Management Team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate within planned maintenance procedures safely and effectively, within your qualifications, competence, training, and experience.
  • Respond to breakdowns and damages to assets safely and effectively, including out-of-hours responses if necessary.
  • Write maintenance reports and technical procedures for building maintenance activities.
  • Assist in training and developing other maintenance staff.
  • Inspect and repair heating, water, ventilation, mechanical equipment, and services on-site, within your qualifications and experience.
  • Diagnose faults in mechanical systems and rectify them as appropriate.
  • Follow detailed drawings and manuals for planned maintenance, inspections, and reactive repairs.
  • Maintain assets, building fabric, fixtures, grounds, access, and parking areas.
  • Develop maintenance routines, procedures, risk assessments, and technical records.
  • Collaborate with other maintenance staff to develop cross-skilling and team coverage.
  • Participate in emergency call-outs and provide cover during absences.
  • Assist in project works and site improvements, reviewing relevant legislation and regulations.
  • Promote a positive Health & Safety culture, report incidents promptly, and follow safe work practices.
