Overview

This individual provides direct patient care according to established protocols, policies, procedures, and accepted standards of care. Functions within approved scope and credentials as approved by Beebe Medical Center credentialing committee. Must be able to obtain a Delaware license to practice in field of specialty and hold a DEA upon eligibility.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain the well-being and independent functioning of aging adult patients.
  • Diagnose and treat illnesses and injuries that are common within the aging process.
  • Refer patients to other specialists for suspected health problems outside of the geriatrician scope of practice.
  • Work with other members of the interdisciplinary teams for continuity of care.
  • Closely monitor patients’ drug regimen to avoid side effects of prescription medications and potential drug interactions.
  • Able to weigh the potential benefit of a treatment against the possible risks to the aging patient.
  • Focus on the patients’ physical, mental, and emotional functioning.
  • Possess great bedside manner and able to broach the subject of advance care planning with patients and families, including discussions about long-term care alternatives, palliative, and hospice care.

Credentials
  • Board Eligible/Board Certified in area of specialty.
  • MD/DO Degree.
  • Licensed to practice medicine and able to obtain Delaware License, CSR, and DEA.
