Overview

Virginia Oncology Associates, the largest group of medical professionals in Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina devoted exclusively to cancer care and blood disorders, has an exciting opportunity for Director of Advanced Practice Provider Service.

VOA seeks an experienced individual with oncology expertise and ideally clinical and operational experience in APP services to identify and execute on a variety of operational and strategic initiatives that optimize the support of our practices with three primary goals namely; 1) strengthening the operational and financial performances of the practice through APP integration in patient care 2) developing an operational framework that positions Virginia Oncology Associates as a preferred employer of APP's wishing to practice in the oncology community setting and 3) improving the quality of multi-disciplinary high value care through maximizing the role of APP's within the practice. Competitive candidates will have knowledge of organizational design and execution supported by business pro-forma justifying key infrastructure and organizational investments. Additionally, the candidate should have strong communication skills with ease in working with both physicians and executive leadership including content experts in coding, operations, contracting, finance, education, and research.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Development of the APP Program for VOA
    • Development of the overarching APP Services within the practice.
    • Assist in a recruitment strategy and plan that will successfully result in continued growth and support in the APP program.
    • Analysis of existing programs that are led by the APP's to identify best practices for the role of the APP in order to standardize for training and implementation
    • Visualize and develop business opportunities led by APPs that provide tangible and diverse streams of revenue for the practice.
    • Development of measures that describe a successful APP Program.
  • Operational Development and Implementation of APP Services
    • Develop network infrastructure that support the APP's and the patients they serve *
    • Look for models and opportunities to ensure efficiency for the APP's *
    • Define and implement realistic project management for implementations that have been identified for each fiscal year
    • Be accountable and hold others accountable for the implementation of the various programs developed with documented expectations and measurements
    • Work across the continuum of the network to develop or implement various programs within the department.
    • Serve as a leader within the practice, US Oncology network as well as within the community.
    • Understand the financial impacts of various APP models for practices
    • Demonstrate leadership through participation in site visits and pro-forma financial reviews pertaining to APP models for practices
    • Facilitate the development of network wide opportunities for APP continuing education
  • Leadership and Managerial Oversight of people including:
    • Educate leaders of VOA on evolving trends that impact APP's and maximize the likelihood that priorities align with needed investments in the APP service line
    • Setting performance objectives for employees
    • Helping employees grow and develop
    • Handling all people-management responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities:

20% of time can be allocated to patient care as determined by needs of the position and/or senior leadership team


Qualifications

  • MBA or Masters Degree in a related health care field, required
  • APP (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) licensure, preferred
  • At least 10 years of health care experience required; preference is for experience as an APP in community oncology, or related space
  • At least 2 years of managerial experience preferred
  • APP in oncology experience strongly preferred, other specialty experience a plus
  • Excellent verbal/written and organizational skills. Ability to multi-task a must
  • Excellent computer skills including: MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel, Outlook
  • Must be willing to travel
