Applicants must have full GMC Registration, a license to practise and eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview. Portfolio Pathway (formerly known as CESR - Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) route doctors are only eligible to apply for a substantive consultant post once it has been awarded. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.

Applications are welcome for the above Permanent, full time (40 hours per week) post based in the Western General Hospital.

It is expected that applicants will have a CCT in Anaesthesia or other relevant specialty and Intensive Care Medicine as recognised by the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine (or equivalent) and be on, or be eligible for inclusion on, the GMC Specialist Register.

The successful candidate will be expected to rotate periodically between the Western General Hospital and Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh (RIE) ICUs. The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh provides a range of tertiary and quaternary services including the regional trauma centre, interventional cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, upper GI and hepato-biliary surgery, Neurology/neurosurgery, Scottish Liver Transplant Unit, Kidney and Pancreatic Transplant and the Scottish Centre for Thoraco-abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Repair. The Western General Hospital provides for most specialties and is the centre for Haematology, Medical and Radiation Oncology, Regional Infectious Diseases, Colorectal and Urology Surgery, Lower GI Medicine and Rheumatology.

The post holder will help to provide consultant sessions to critical care services which underpin the emergency and elective workload of this busy University hospital.

The appointment is for 10 PAs. This is an 9 Direct Clinical Care appointment with 1 Supporting Professional Activity. Should the successful candidate wish to take on other activities (to include for example undergraduate teaching, educational/clinical supervision and appraisal) an additional SPA session can be offered.

This job can be configured for Anaesthesia or other specialty interest or for full time critical care for suitable applicants.
