Job Overview

Under general supervision, coordinates engineering tasks and communicates with other organizational resources to complete project assignments on new or existing products and/or product lines.

A Day In The Life
  • Responsible for receiving, reviewing, and evaluating project requests and planning activities for project completion.
  • Analyzes customer technical requirements and provides product recommendations. Activities include generating new products through our NPD system or FOCUS process.
  • Carries out design and development work as planned to transform customer needs into final products. Performs simulation tests and analyses, selects materials, and generates product specifications to meet project goals.
  • Researches and interprets industry standards and associated requirements. Creates project scope and design goals to satisfy applicable standards.
  • Works with cross-functional teams to ensure completion of all project-related tasks.
  • Participates in laboratory testing, data collection, and report generation.
  • Reports on the status and progress of projects and performs additional duties to ensure project completion.
  • Conducts sustaining engineering investigations (e.g., product failures, customer complaints, deviations), summarizes findings, and prepares solutions.
  • Initiates drawing orders, engineering changes, sample and prototype requests, purchase requests, and other paperwork necessary for project execution or product line maintenance.
  • Interacts with other departments to complete projects such as DFM, cost reductions, and internal improvements.
  • Attends trade shows, supplier visits, seminars, and conferences to support sales and project needs.
What Will Help You Thrive in This Role
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent from an accredited university.
  • At least 3 years of engineering experience in Product Design or similar in a manufacturing environment, with a proven track record.
  • Comfortable operating power equipment.
  • Effective collaboration skills across departments.
  • Strong project management skills, including timeline management.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD software (e.g., Creo or Inventor).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other PC applications.
  • Experience in the power tool industry is a plus.
  • Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, creative thinking, and ability to resolve issues timely.
  • Ability to work well in team problem-solving situations.
  • Effective project planning, coordination, and communication skills, with ability to complete projects on time and within budget.
