Job description

Seeking someone with finance experience to join our Board. They will be able to lead on financial matters, ensuring we meet our obligations within the required legal, accounting, and good practice frameworks, and help us build a sound strategy.

By supporting governance, you are part of a team providing vital holistic support in your local community, ensuring a dignified experience for all visitors and contacts of Uttlesford Foodbank.

  • Knowledge of and commitment to the work of Uttlesford Foodbank
  • Previous experience or ability in financial accounting and reporting procedures; ability to communicate financial information to those with little or no financial background; keeping financial records up to date
  • Knowledge and passion for your local community
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Willingness to participate in discussions concerning the needs of beneficiaries, staff, and the trustee board
  • Willingness to act in the best interest of the charity

What will you be doing?
  1. Ensure the Board of Trustees fulfills its financial responsibilities
  2. Ensure proper systems for budgeting, financial control, insurance, and reporting are in place
  3. Ensure financial reports are clear, discussed at meetings, and provided in the required format and timing
  4. Oversee appointment of auditors or independent examiners
  5. Support and guide the charity’s purpose, vision, strategy, goals, and objectives
  6. Manage resources responsibly, safeguarding assets and avoiding undue risk
  7. Ensure effective administration and respond to community changes
  8. Identify, monitor, and control key risks
  9. Develop financial plans, monitor budgets, and evaluate progress
  10. Review and approve financial statements
  11. Promote the organisation to stakeholders and beneficiaries
  12. Ensure compliance with legislation and good practice (employment, health & safety, D&I, safeguarding, GDPR)
  13. Participate in meetings, subcommittees, and trustee away days
