Location - Edinburgh / Newcastle

Office Attendance - Our roles are hybrid, however you should be able to travel to our office, 2 days per week for this position.

We’re looking for a Head of Technology Operations to join our Insurance & Money Services team.

As the Head of Technology Operations, you’ll build and lead our Insurance & Money Services technology operations organisation. You’ll be part of the technology leadership team and will help deliver our insurance & money services go-to-market plans, growth strategies, and our customer experience. You’ll help to develop our supporting technology strategy with a focus on:

  • Embracing and driving significant value from new technologies, including data analytics and AI technologies.
  • Achieving better quality, control, cost discipline and speed to market across our technology, data and digital investments.
  • Delivering solutions reliably at scale, cheaper and faster.
  • Creating leading-edge digital experiences for customers and employees.
  • Transforming our legacy architecture and embracing new technology innovations, reducing the cost to serve.
  • Ensuring appropriate risk management, control, security, and resilience of our systems and operations.

What you’ll be doing

  • Helping to create a competitive advantage for Tesco Insurance & Mone y Services through building and running a leading operations function with a focus on high velocity and scalability, sustainability, quality, controls, security, and risk management.
  • Partner with product management, technology, data, risk management and other business leads to create a vision and strategy for technology operations that delivers on the Insurance & Money Services strategy.Plan for deprecation of legacy infrastructure and applications.
  • Ensure the business activities comply with external regulatory and internal policies and standards. Ensure business risk is managed and mitigated appropriately.
  • Enable a culture of creativity, collaboration, speed, agility, innovation, and excellence while continuously elevating the calibre and quality of the technology operations organisation. Put the customer first.
  • Ensure the security, reliability, and integrity of systems, including data protection and disaster recovery.
  • Develop standards and procedures that ensure operations are secure, scalable, and resilient by design. Ensure decision making is risk-based. Continuously deliver a culture of executional excellence.
  • Design, implement and monitor all operations and key performance metrics and operational efficiency for technology operations.
  • Own environment and configuration management, both on premise and in the cloud, including FinOps cost management.
  • Identify and evaluate new technologies, trends, methods, and procedures that improve the Tesco Insurance and Money Services product offering and delivers great customer outcomes.
  • Providing strategic direction as the most senior leader in technology operations and serve as a role model for the Insurance & Money Services organisation.
  • Driving organisation change by promoting agile and DevOps principles and values.
  • Influencing and negotiating with Senior Leaders. Impact the business through strategic direction, identifying and removing blockers, continually identifying improvements to process.
  • Partnering with stakeholders across Tesco Group to identify opportunities for the progression of the organisation.

We need you to have:

  • Extensive operational leadership experience working in fast paced and dynamic Agile and DevOps environments.
  • Extensive experience in both building and running a regulated technology operation, within an enterprise environment, utilising a range of in-house, managed services and outsourced services.
  • Deep understanding of IT infrastructure technologies, including hardware, software, platforms, networking, cloud (AWS & Azure, risk management and security.
  • Deep knowledge of vendor management, procurement, and outsourcing
  • Experience of the regulatory environment that Insurance & Money Services operates in.
  • Demonstrable experience navigating a large organisation, showcasing the ability to influencing with storytelling and data.
  • Comfortable with C-Suite reporting relationships and presenting to C-level executives and other senior leaders.
  • Effective leadership, analytical and negotiation skills. Effective conflict resolution skills.
