Trainee Drainage Engineer

Salary: £24,000 - £27,000 basic salary plus on-call, overtime, and benefits (OTE of average Drainage Engineer post-training £40-50K)

Metro Rod works with clients such as Tesco, Marks and Spencer, Mitie, Clarion, Axa, Wetherspoons, and many more across sectors including FM, Social Housing, Property Management, Retail, Industrial, and Leisure. Despite over 40 years in operation, we are a fast-growing, dynamic business and part of the expanding Franchise Brands group.

Founded in 1983, Metro Rod and its sister company Metro Plumb are leading providers of drain clearance and maintenance services, primarily reactive. Our services are delivered by over 60 franchisees across the UK. With over thirty years of experience, we are proud of our reputation for quality service and customer satisfaction, trusted by major companies and high street brands to manage drain maintenance and blockages.

Within the Waste & Water Services Division of Franchise Brands, we also have Willow Pumps and Filta, focusing on sewage pumps and commercial kitchen solutions. Together, these brands offer a comprehensive service for water and waste management.

This is a full-time, permanent role ideal for someone interested in the drainage industry or learning a trade on the job. There are significant opportunities for development, training, and progression.

What does it entail?
  • Carrying out services related to cleaning, clearance, repair, and maintenance of drains
  • Operating High-Pressure Water Jetting Equipment safely and effectively
  • Conducting surveys
  • Providing excellent customer service and technical expertise
  • Recording work details accurately via internal and client systems
  • Communicating effectively with clients and support teams to ensure high service standards
  • Participating in an on-call rota to service clients 24/7, one week in four, subject to business needs
