About Us

Space for Change is a new project based within a multi-agency team consisting of elements such as Health, Social Work and Parenting. The project sits within the Early Intervention and Prevention strand of the Children and Young People’s Service in the Vale of Glamorgan.

The project aims to provide practical and emotional support to parents whose children have been permanently removed from their care, with a focus on resilience and stability.

Through direct work and tailored intervention, the project outcomes will be:

  • Parents being better integrated in the community.
  • Parents feeling more hopeful about a positive future and personal goals.
  • Breaking a pattern of repeat pregnancies
  • Receiving support relating to any previous childhood trauma
  • Being in a supportive and healthy relationships with their significant other.
  • Making more informed choices about contraception and starting a family.
  • A better idea and understanding of what a ‘Healthy Relationship’ looks like
  • Increased confidence and self-esteem

About The Role

Pay Details: Grade 7, SCP 20 - 25, (£31,586 - £35,235) pa, £16.37 - £18.26/Ph

Hours of Work / Working Pattern: 37 hours per week – Monday to Friday

Main Place of Work: Barry

Temporary Reason: Welsh Government funded post until 31.3.2028

Description: Provide practical and emotional support to parents whose children have been permanently removed from their care. You will be responsible for implementing a range of interventions and support measures as part of an integrated package of health, therapeutic and social support. Addressing complex need, through intensive support to enable change and ultimately reduce the numbers of children being removed in to care.

About You

We are seeking a dynamic, passionate and enthusiastic individual who is able to work independently whilst utilising the skills available to them within the multi-agency team. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate tenacity where required whilst being compassionate and empathetic.

You will need:

  • Experience of working with families/individuals who present with a range of complex needs (mental health challenges, drug and alcohol misuse, domestic violence) and demonstrate an ability to create rapport and build effective relationships
  • Experience of working with trauma and having an understanding of how this will present and working creatively to support clients
  • Knowledge of adult and child safeguarding
  • An understanding of the impact of grief and loss
  • Knowledge of relationship and strengths-based interventions
  • An ability to build reflective, supportive, and outcome-focused relationships whilst maintaining boundaries
  • An ability to write clear and concise records and reports; having necessary computer literacy skills to produce good quality information in a variety of formats.
  • Level 4 Counselling qualification
  • Degree level in relevant subject area e.g. Education, Social Work, Nursing, Mental Health or equivalent
  • To be committed to improving outcomes within the community, with a focus on marginalised groups
  • To be flexible, energetic and have a collaborative approach to work
  • To have the ability to drive/travel throughout the Vale or between locations as appropriate.
