Job Description:

Dow Jones is seeking an experienced photo editor to join its editorial production team on Financial News and Private Equity News. This is an opportunity to join the print and online team, sourcing imagery and commissioning illustrations for the newsroom as well as working alongside the design team with special projects [FN100 Most Influential Women in Finance, Rising Stars of Finance], creating palettes and visual languages.

The ideal candidate for this role will have strong journalistic integrity and be able to produce a range of high-quality assignments in the areas of finance, portraits and occasional photoshoots, in a fast-paced environment.

You should also demonstrate broad agency and social media research knowledge, and the skills to work effectively within a busy newsroom.

A proven track record of editorial production and visual conceptualisation, with an ability to work with a small team, under tight deadlines, is a must. Your work will require great creativity, speed, organisation and attention to detail.

You will be responsible for conceiving of and creating compelling photographic content, from digital mobile and desktop displays to social promotion and events.

This is a three day, part time position and will be based in our London Bridge office and reports to the Design Director.

You will:

  • Produce and build visual assets for Financial News and Private Equity News on their digital and print platforms.
  • Perform general photo research as needed.
  • Pitch visually innovative and original approaches to features coverage from print covers to digital display, with a focus on the online experience.
  • Maintain a budget on a quarterly basis.
  • Assign photography and run your own shoot production; commissioning original content on location.

You have:

  • A background in editorial production work and conceptualisation.
  • 1-3 years experience.
  • A network of photographers and photo agencies.
  • Familiarity with web tools, content management systems, photo editing programs, such as Photoshop and PhotoMechanic. Video editing tools are a bonus.
  • Excellent news judgement and an expansive understanding of mobile-first experience and design.
  • Strong organisational, communication and collaborative abilities.
  • The drive to reach new audiences, an understanding of and appreciation for audience data and SEO-friendly presentation.
  • A creative vision and enthusiasm to spearhead and collaborate on new ideas.
  • A self-starter mindset, and the ability to work independently as well as with a team.
  • Deep research skills, including news-gathering and social media tools.
  • Basic coding skills are a plus.
