FTE Salary: up to £39,495.00 (Salary is dependent on qualifications and experience)

Working Hours: 37 hours per week

SGS Create provides a specialised, school-like environment within a college setting, offering a nurturing and inclusive space for students who have found mainstream education challenging. Many of our learners are neurodiverse, have experienced prolonged disengagement, or are seeking a more personalised and flexible approach to learning. Our balanced curriculum includes core academic GCSEs-such as English Language, Maths, and Double Science-alongside vocational pathways tailored to student interests, all supported by small class sizes and a high staff-to-student ratio.

SGS Create has developed a highly supportive and responsive provision that removes many of the barriers faced by some of the most marginalised students, creating the conditions for them to thrive. Now entering its third year, SGS Create continues to grow and evolve. Our small class sizes, high staff-to-student ratios, and personalised approach to education have made a tangible difference to learners and their families. Recent audits from external and internal evaluators have praised the provision for its strong leadership, inclusive ethos, excellent safeguarding practices, and transformative impact on student confidence and engagement.

  • SGS Create teaching staff and corporate staff will be allocated 13 weeks holidays each academic year, only to be taken in line with the school holiday term breaks. Some cover might be needed during term breaks but this will be with prior agreement. A full-time teaching timetable would be 25 hours timetable per week to allow for PPA, over 39 teaching weeks, this will be reduced to reflect any agreed remission allocated for specific roles or responsibilities. Key Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging, accessible lessons in GCSE Combined Science (AQA) and the Entry Level Certificate in Science to students aged 14-16
  • Contribute to curriculum planning and development, ensuring lessons meet diverse learning needs and prior gaps in education
  • Use a wide range of diagnostic tools, formative and summative assessment strategies to track and report student progress
  • Embed trauma-informed and relational approaches into daily teaching and behaviour management
  • Collaborate closely with the SENDCo, Wellbeing Mentor and support staff to deliver integrated support around learning
  • Maintain high standards of behaviour, engagement and safeguarding in line with the school's policies and ethos
  • Participate in weekly team meetings and reflective practice to support continuous improvement
  • Contribute to whole-school development through regular CPD, curriculum design input, and student enrichment opportunities
  • Build positive relationships with families, professionals, and external agencies to support each learner's progress
  • Take part in parent evenings, student review meetings, and contribute to transition planning into post-16 education
  • Support the school's ethos of inclusion, creativity and personal growth, acting as a role model for kindness and resilience

Beneficial Skills and Qualifications

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Experience teaching GCSE Science (AQA Combined) and familiarity with the Entry Level Certificate in Science
  • Ability to differentiate effectively across a wide range of abilities and starting points
  • An understanding of the needs of students with SEND, anxiety or prior disengagement from education
  • Creative, practical and adaptable approach to teaching science in real-world, engaging contexts
  • Strong classroom presence, high expectations, and commitment to relational behaviour strategies
  • Skilled in using assessment data to inform planning and individual support
