Job description

As an HSBC employee in the UK, you will have access to tailored professional development opportunities and a competitive pay and benefits package. This includes private healthcare for all UK-based employees, enhanced maternity and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution.

Our Commercial Banking business serves over a million customers across more than 50 markets, ranging from small enterprises focused primarily on their home markets, through to corporates operating across borders. Whether it is working capital, term loans, trade finance or payments and cash management solutions, we provide the tools and expertise that businesses need to thrive. As the cornerstone of the HSBC Group, we give businesses access to a geographic network covering more than 90% of global trade and capital flows.

We are currently seeking an experienced individual to join this team in the role of Credit Strats Director.

There is an increased focus on using our capital optimally and managing credit risk in a way that both helps improve our business profile and ensures compliance with an increasingly complex regulatory environment. To respond to this, CMB requires a senior thought leader to drive a program to build and utilize a set of tools that leverage the capital models to optimize our business strategy and understand the risk profile at a deeper level.

In this role, you will:

  1. Combine subject matter expertise to build an industry-leading credit platform in the Felis, the Wholesale Analytics platform, to ensure the successful delivery of this program.
  2. Partner with Product specialists across the regions, especially in the Wholesale Credit and Lending space, GRA, regional Heads of CMB / Coverage, as well as partners including IT, Wholesale Data, Business Finance & Compliance to ensure the models are optimized to serve the CMB franchise and structural market conditions in each region.
  3. Be in charge of designing and building the next generation of tools that can be used by the business across all regions, allowing a step change in how we serve our clients and increase revenue.
  4. Operate at the highest level to achieve consensus on technical issues among a large range of senior stakeholders, whilst driving best-in-class credit analytics supporting the frontline in delivering ambitious revenue uplift targets.
  5. Provide commercially driven thought leadership in the design and calibration of the relevant credit framework.
  6. Partner with client-facing teams in the design of capital & resource-efficient products, ensuring the tooling is available to monitor the performance of those products.

To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:

  1. Broad-based banking experience in financial services, with a focus on credit, rates, or cash management markets.
  2. Proven track record of running an established strats team.
  3. Highly numerate with hands-on knowledge of coding languages e.g., Python, C++.
  4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience in preparing and communicating key messages and recommendations to senior management and stakeholders.
  5. Strong influencing, interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  6. Result-oriented team player who can foster strong, collaborative partnerships with key stakeholders.

We are a Disability Confident Leader and will offer an interview to candidates with disabilities, long-term conditions, or neurodivergence who meet the role's minimum criteria.
