Pret A Manger - Barista
A Pret Barista works as part of a team in a Pret shop to ensure all Barista-prepared drinks are served to the required Pret standard.
The role focuses on delivering excellent quality, knowledge, understanding, and service with Pret “Buzz”. It involves efficient back counter operation, cleanliness, maintenance, and team training, ensuring customers always receive the drink they expect.
The Barista is an integral part of the shop team and will carry out Team Member Star duties as needed.
Right Pret People: Barista Prepared Drink Training
- Coach and train Team Member Star Coffee and Baristas in Training on Barista Prepared Drinks and standards.
- Liaise with the TMT to plan and execute all Barista prepared drink training.
- Conduct Coffee team briefs and attend relevant meetings, courses, and conferences related to Barista Prepared Drinks.
- Ensure all hot drink training materials are current and available.
- Follow Pret’s dress code and maintain a professional appearance, always wearing the correct Barista uniform.
Amazing Service: Creating Pret Buzz
- Engage positively with customers and the team about Pret’s Coffee Story and Coffee Menu.
- Manage queue calls to reduce waiting times.
- Serve Barista Prepared Drinks promptly.
- Ensure clear, appropriate, and consistent coffee calling.
- Impress customers with latte art.
Delicious Food & Drink: Quality & Knowledge
- Prepare all Barista Drinks to Pret standards.
- Model and maintain knowledge of Pret’s Barista Drinks and standards.
- Confidently communicate key messages about Pret’s Coffee offerings.
- Maintain milk and coffee quality through tasting and weighing.
- Monitor results of Coffee Confidence visits, Mystery Shopper, and 3D Review for the coffee section.
- Update team on new product launches and standard updates.
- Report ingredient quality issues to the Manager.
- Understand product names and standards across retailers for familiarity.
Well Loved Shop: Operation, Cleanliness & Maintenance
- Maintain equipment, Barista box, and perform daily & weekly checks to Pret standards.
- View the counter from a customer’s perspective and keep it clean.
- Apply the 5 point check to ensure readiness.
- Conduct log checks, thermometer calibrations, and dribble tests as per standards.
- Follow health & safety laws and Pret standards.
- Adhere to food safety standards and ensure safety for self, team, and customers.
Shop Profitability: Waste Control
- Manage waste levels of Barista prepared drink ingredients.
- Address stock variances and waste issues as directed by the Manager.
Growing Sales: Maximising Barista Prepared Drinks Sales
- Set and share weekly sales targets with the team.
- Monitor sales versus total shop sales and product mix.
- Maintain adequate stock levels of ingredients, packaging, and equipment.
- Use promotional waste to sample products and recognize regular customers, encouraging sales via Joy of Pret.
