Main duties of the job

This role involves providing consultant services to maintain departmental capacity during a period of expansion. The post holder will manage General ENT patients at MMH.

This position is based at Medway Maritime Hospital and Darent Valley Hospital.

The appointee will participate fully in the clinical activities of the Department, providing emergency ENT cover on a 1:8 basis during weekdays (14-hour shifts from 6.00pm-8.00am) and on weekends (24-hour shifts from 8.00am Saturday to 8.00am Sunday). During on-call hours, they will support and advise resident and middle-grade staff, supervise emergency surgeries, undertake on-call ward rounds, and provide support to other hospital specialties as needed. Our unit serves Darent Valley Hospital and its Dartford and Gravesham population, transferring emergencies requiring specialist ENT care to Medway.

Key objectives include:

  • Assessing, caring for, and treating patients presenting to the department
  • Enhancing General ENT services
  • Contributing to meeting 14-day and 62-day cancer waiting time targets and 18-week referral-to-treat times
  • Leading and providing high-quality Otolaryngology services
  • Teaching and training trainees and non-medical staff, including medical students
  • Engaging in research activities
  • Participating in audits and quality assurance
  • Following clinical governance policies and GIRFT principles

Qualifications
Essential
  • Full GMC Registration with a license to practice
  • FRCS (ORL-HNS) or equivalent
Desirable
  • Higher Degree (MD/PhD) supporting research interests
