Job description

M&E Site Supervisor

Location: Forest Row, East Sussex

Hours: 40 hours, Monday - Friday

Salary: Up to £55k + Van and Package

Role: To supervise the construction activities that take place on a day to day basis on various work sites and ensure the successful completion of the contract under your supervision. To ensure activities undertaken on sites are carried out to the highest practicable safety standards and delivered to programme.

Job Responsibilities:
  1. To ensure current and future work activities are planned and resources (labour, plant and material) are available.
  2. Build and develop the team to deliver all aspects of the project requirements.
  3. Provide, monitor and control labour, plant and materials to meet the programme.
  4. Monitor and instruct subcontractor and direct workforce, identifying training requirements and ensuring only trained, competent and authorised persons are completing assigned tasks and operating equipment and plant.
  5. Ensure delivery of briefings including start of shift, method statements, risk assessments and regular toolbox talks covering appropriate health, safety and environmental issues are recorded and understood by your teams.
  6. To ensure that works are being undertaken as detailed in the method statement and in accordance with the risk assessment for the task.
  7. Assist with working method and outputs for production of method statements and programme.
  8. To ensure that permits are received and completed and that controls are in place.
  9. Ensure accurate, legible and up to date allocation sheets are recorded and provided at end of shift with delivery tickets and plant returns completed.
  10. Keep a full and accurate daily site diary, including any changes / variations, subcontractors' attendance, and records of work-related discussions with client.
  11. Ensure that plant, equipment and vehicle inspections are carried out, and defects are reported immediately.
  12. Interpret and apply engineering drawings.
Health & Safety:
  1. Under the Health & Safety at Work Act you must take reasonable care of yourself and others who may be affected by your activities at work, must cooperate and must not intentionally or recklessly misuse anything provided for your health and safety.
  2. Ensure that the workplace is organised and planned to minimise or avoid unnecessary manual handling of materials.
  3. Ensure that the workplace under your supervision is kept tidy and safe access routes for both plant and people are maintained.
  4. Remain aware of the arrangements implemented with other Contractors and Subcontractors to avoid confusion about areas of responsibility.
  5. Ensure hazardous materials are stored, handled, used and disposed of in accordance with the COSHH assessment.
  6. Ensure that employees are not required, instructed or permitted to take unnecessary risks, or to undertake task activities that exceed their capability and capacity.
  7. Stop any activity which is considered to be unsafe and only allowing to restart when it is safe to do so.
  8. Report all health and safety incidents, including near misses and injuries, immediately, and assist with any incident investigations.
  9. Carry out regular safety inspections and implement recommended courses of action as identified from progress monitoring and management inspections.
Environmental:
  1. Comply with environmental legislation and company procedures.
  2. Control and monitor site waste.
  3. Ensure that dust and other nuisance is kept to a minimum.
  4. Report all environmental incidents immediately and assist with any incident investigations.
  5. Carry out regular environmental inspections and implement recommended courses of action as identified from progress monitoring and management inspections.
Qualifications:
  • SMSTS - essential
  • EUSR Card water hygiene - desirable
  • Temp Works Supervisor - desirable
  • Experience with Shafts/ Deep Drainage projects - essential
  • Good IT skills i.e. use a tablet for stats/ drawings review - essential
  • Good knowledge of HSG47 - essential
  • Manage and maintain a site pack - essential
  • Manage street works and excavations/ backfilling in the highway - essential
  • Ability to effectively communicate to site crews i.e. weekly toolbox talks to crews.
  • Liaise with client, local authorities.
  • Collaborate with relevant departments i.e. SHEQ team.
