Job description

Your Role

As a Gensler Project Architect & Space Planner specializing in sports facilities and space planning, you will support in leading a team of architects and designers to deliver exceptional athletic venues with optimized spatial solutions. You will leverage your combined expertise in sports architecture and space planning to ensure efficient, functional, and innovative design solutions that maximize both athlete and spectator experiences.

What You Will Do

  • Lead the development of strategic space planning solutions for complex sports facilities
  • Create and optimize spatial layouts for diverse program requirements including training areas, athlete facilities, hospitality spaces, and back-of-house operations
  • Manage client, team and project coordination, including full documentation coordination with structural, MEP, lighting, AV, landscape and civil consultants
  • Develop detailed space programs and adjacency studies for sports facilities
  • Analyze circulation patterns and flow for athletes, spectators, media, and operations staff
  • Coordinate with sports governing bodies and regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with spatial requirements and standards
  • Manage project lifecycle; estimating, bidding, project kick-off, weekly coordination, punch list, turnover, opening, and project close-out
  • Create efficient solutions for complex operational requirements within confined spaces
  • Provide technical guidance and innovative solutions to resolve space planning challenges specific to sports architecture
  • Conduct and document site visits, process submittals, substitution requests, and RFIs during construction

Your Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Architecture
  • RIBA or ARB registered Architect
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in designing and delivering sports projects
  • Demonstrated expertise in space planning and programming for large-scale facilities
  • Strong understanding of sports facility operational requirements and spatial relationships
  • Knowledge of international sports governing body requirements (FIFA, UEFA, IOC, etc.)
  • Proficiency in Revit a must, experience in space planning software advantageous
  • Experience with the full project lifecycle, from feasibility and concept to delivery
  • Knowledge of UK building regulations, standards and building structures
  • Understanding of specialized spatial requirements for sports venues including:
    • Athlete preparation and recovery spaces
    • Media and broadcast facilities
    • VIP and hospitality areas
    • Support service spaces
  • Ability to develop collaborative relationships across the firm, with clients, and with other key constituents
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to spatial efficiency
  • Experience in sustainable design practices for large-scale sports facilities
