Job description

Position Overview

AJT Engineering is accepting applications for our Engineering Division for the position of Apprentice CNC Machinist to join our team based in Aberdeen, Scotland.

We offer unique on-the-job training with opportunities to develop wider technical and project delivery skills by working alongside experienced employees.

We will fully support your journey to becoming a CNC Machine Operator, where you will gain skills in programming and setting up various machine tools. You will learn to machine components on lathes, select correct tooling for milling, and gain experience on 5-axis machine tools. Training includes inspecting work and using measuring equipment in a modern machine shop. Basic fitting skills are also part of the training for a skilled machinist. The training program lasts four years, up to SVQ Level 3.

Job Purpose

The main purpose of this position is to train as a CNC machinist through a structured program of academic study, workshop training, onsite training, and college courses to support AJT Engineering Ltd's machining department.

Main Responsibilities

1. Arrive at work on time and be ready to start at the scheduled times.
2. Read and understand engineering drawings.
3. Use precision measuring equipment.
4. Become proficient in programming different languages.
5. Operate one or more of the following machines to the standards acceptable by AJT Engineering:

• CNC Centre Lathe
• CNC Vertical Turning Lathe
• CNC Horizontal Boring Mill
• CNC Machining Centre
• DMG/DMU 100P duo Block Deckel Maho 5 Axis Machine

Ensure all Health and Safety requirements are met.

Maintain a safe and tidy working environment.

Attend college courses as scheduled.

Perform any other reasonable tasks or activities as requested by the Production Manager or delegate.

Skills And Abilities

• No prerequisite experience required, but a demonstrated interest in mechanical engineering through school or hobbies is preferred.
• Good verbal communication skills for interacting with supervisors and colleagues.
• Good educational background including English and Mathematics at NAT 5 level.

Knowledge & Experience

• Interest in mechanical engineering disciplines.

Working Hours: This is a full-time role based on 38 hours per week.

Relocation Assistance: This role is not eligible for relocation.

Remote Type: There is no remote or hybrid working available for this role.
