Job Description:

Infrastructure and Modern Workplace Lead

Work Environment:Hybrid
Location:London, UK
Employment Type:Full-Time

  • Lead and grow a high-performing team while shaping global technology direction.
  • Balance strategic leadership with hands-on opportunities in a collaborative environment.
  • Flexible hybrid working to support your professional and personal priorities.

About Us
At AustralianSuper, we are driven by a singular purpose: helping members achieve their best financial position in retirement. With £160bn in assets under management, we are one of the world’s largest and most forward-thinking pension funds. Our global expansion means we’re building the infrastructure to serve members better—no matter where we are.

Our London office plays a pivotal role in this strategy, and we’re looking for a skilled Infrastructure and Modern Workplace Lead to join, and lead, our growing team. You’ll lead the way in crafting innovative, secure, and scalable solutions, helping to shape the future of workplace technology, whilst always having a continual focus on the team, their needs, capabilities and development at the forefront of your mind.

At AustralianSuper, we understand life and work are interconnected. That’s why we offer flexible hybrid working arrangements, empowering you to balance your professional ambitions with personal priorities.

The Opportunity
This is a unique chance to lead and manage a local team while shaping the direction of a global team, focusing on capability uplift, continuous improvement mindsets, Cloud, Networking, Integration, and Modern Workplace technologies. In this key leadership role, you’ll provide strategic direction, build and develop your team, and ensure cutting-edge solutions support our mission.

While this is primarily a leadership role, you’ll have the opportunity to remain hands-on with technology — especially during the early phases of team growth and transformation — allowing you to directly contribute to key projects and innovations.

You’ll collaborate closely with global colleagues, including teams in Australia and the US, to drive innovation and continuous improvement across our technology landscape.

This means flexibility in work hours, whilst an essential requirement to engage collaboratively with International Teams effectively, is also an opportunity. So, if you’ve had some early morning meetings, why not finish early on Friday, or start late on a Monday!

As the Infrastructure and Modern Workplace Lead, you’ll:

  • Lead and manage a local team, whilst shaping the direction of a global team, inspiring a culture of excellence and collaboration.
  • Lead by example, always looking forwards, driving automation, innovation, and continuous improvement across our platforms, whilst elevating visibility, capability and strategic thinking across your team.
  • Act as a trusted technology advisor, aligning solutions with the Fund’s strategic objectives.
  • Manage operational performance, ensuring uptime, security, and user satisfaction.
  • Partner with key stakeholders globally, influencing decisions and building strong relationships.
  • Contribute to the growth and evolution of our technology function, expanding your leadership scope over time.

What You’ll Bring
We are looking for an experienced leader who combines technical expertise with exceptional people leadership skills. You’ll thrive in a global, fast-paced, and matrixed environment, bringing both strategic vision and a hands-on approach to the role.

You’re a collaborator, a problem solver, and someone who values fostering an inclusive, innovative, and high-performing team culture.

To excel in this role, you’ll need:

  • Leadership Excellence:Proven experience leading diverse, multi-geographical teams, with a track record of inspiring and growing talent.
  • Technical Depth:Broad expertise in Modern Workplace technologies, Cloud (Azure preferred), Networking, or Integration, with the ability to specialise in one.
  • Strategic Mindset:Ability to see the big picture, align technology initiatives with business goals, and influence stakeholders.
  • Global Experience:Familiarity with medium-to-large-scale, multi-regional environments, ideally in financial services, utilities, large-scale retail, service providers, or similar industries.
  • Operational Expertise:A strong understanding of ITIL, IT Service Management, and governance practices.
  • Exceptional Communication:Skills to effectively engage stakeholders at all levels and build trust.
  • Growth Mindset:A passion for continuous learning, innovation, and improvement.

Why Join Us?
At AustralianSuper, we are committed to fostering an inclusive workplace where every individual feels empowered to thrive. In addition to contributing to our members’ success, you’ll enjoy:

  • A flexible hybrid work environment designed to suit your lifestyle.
  • Opportunities for career development and growth within a global organisation.
  • A chance to make a real impact, building a world-class technology function.

We understand that representation matters. That’s why we actively encourage applications from women and underrepresented groups in technology—even if you don’t tick every box.

What’s Next?

If you’re ready to take on a leadership role where you can innovate, collaborate, and shape the future of technology, we’d love to hear from you.

At AustralianSuper, we are dedicated to ensuring an inclusive recruitment process. If you require adjustments, please let us know.
