Technical Project Manager

Description

Whisper is a leading global production company, specialising in sports, unscripted and branded entertainment.

Our diverse team of over 270 members work in offices across the UK and beyond, producing top-level sports such as Formula One, UEFA, and The Paralympics, as well as branded content, prime-time documentaries, and entertainment quiz shows for various broadcasters.

The Technical Project Manager (TPM) will report to the Chief Technical Officer (CTO) and serve as the primary contact for all technical requirements related to the delivery of assigned productions, primarily sports and esports events.

The TPM will facilitate communication between technical teams and production, establish clear technical requirements, and create relevant documentation. They will also act as the main point of contact for technical issues, ensuring problems are understood and mitigated for future events.

The successful candidate will engage in individual projects and contribute to Whisper’s long-term technical strategy. A strong knowledge of onsite and remote broadcast workflows, industry innovations, and relationships with technical providers and manufacturers is essential.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Serve as the single technical point of contact and support for Whisper production teams.
  2. Facilitate the introduction of new technical ideas to enhance production value.
  3. Lead planning of strategic projects, including technical installation, supplier coordination, high-level design, and overseeing implementation.
  4. Provide solutions for production requests, discussing options and adding value.
  5. Assist in preparing bids and presenting to prospective clients.
  6. Create RFPs and technical specifications for third-party suppliers.
  7. Act as the primary liaison for third-party tech providers, including OB companies and venue tech teams.
  8. Evaluate third-party quotes for technical suitability and cost-effectiveness.
  9. On-site, coordinate between production and suppliers, ensure schedules are met, and technical processes follow best practices.
  10. Ensure safety and compliance with UK Health & Safety guidelines on-site.
  11. Monitor and resolve technical issues during events, ensuring resilience and effective communication.
  12. Gather feedback from production teams on technical performance and follow up with suppliers as needed.
  13. Regularly meet with suppliers to discuss technological advancements and innovations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
  • Proven experience in live broadcast technical operations or production engineering.
  • Experience leading teams or projects.
  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills.
  • Deep understanding of live production workflows and editorial needs.
  • Knowledge of broadcast technical practices.
  • Ability to interpret technical discussions and multi-task across projects.
  • Innovative mindset with problem-solving capabilities.
Desirable Experience
  • Experience with Baseband and IP broadcast solutions.
  • Remote workflow expertise.
  • Knowledge of cloud production.
  • International experience.
Location and Working Conditions

Primarily based in Kew, London, with on-site work at event venues or third-party locations, including international travel. Flexibility for weekend work and scheduling based on production needs. 'Lieu days' provided for extra days worked. Flexitime options are available.

Start Date and Salary

June 2025, with contract length to be discussed. Salary based on experience.
