As a Lead Software Engineer at JPMorgan Chase within the Equity Derivatives Group, you are an integral part of an agile team that works to enhance, build, and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. As a core technical contributor, you are responsible for conducting critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas within various business functions in support of the firm’s business objectives.

Job responsibilities

• Execute creative software solutions, design, develop, and troubleshoot technically with the ability to think beyond routine or conventional approaches to build solutions or break down technical problems.
• Develop secure, high-quality production code, and review and debug code written by others.
• Identify opportunities to eliminate or automate remediation of recurring issues to improve overall operational stability of software applications and systems.
• Lead evaluation sessions with external vendors, startups, and internal teams to drive outcomes-oriented probing of architectural designs, technical credentials, and applicability for use within existing systems and information architecture.
• Lead communities of practice across Software Engineering to drive awareness and use of new and leading-edge technologies.
• Foster a team culture of equity, respect, and collaboration.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

• Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts and proficient experience developing in Java.
• Solid hands-on experience designing and implementing secure, scalable, and resilient distributed systems on the cloud.
• Practical experience in system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages.
• Experience with automation and continuous delivery methods.
• Proficiency in all aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle.
• Advanced understanding of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, application resiliency, and security.
• Proficiency in software applications and technical processes within a discipline (e.g., cloud, AI, machine learning, mobile, etc.).
• Knowledge of the financial services industry and their IT systems.
• Practical cloud experience.

Additional skills and experience

• Experience with object-oriented design and microservice architectures.
• Experience with cloud technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, Terraform.
• Experience with the Java ecosystem including Spring, Web Services, and Messaging.
• Experience with NoSQL / Big Data databases.
• Experience with finance or derivative products.
• Experience with Java 17+ and JVM languages like Kotlin or Scala.
