About the role

  • Responsible for delivering the health, safety, and environmental risk strategy of the business as set by the Head of Safety & Risk.
  • Implementing ISO certified safety and environmental management systems.
  • Acting as the Subject Matter Expert for Smiths News on Health and Safety, Environmental risk, and Safety Culture, including all road transport and operational yard safety at Smiths News and third-party locations.
  • Owning company health and safety policies, training, and audit regimes, ensuring suitable and sufficient arrangements are in place and managed effectively.
  • Delivering Human Factors and Safety Culture Awareness programs in conjunction with the Head of Safety & Risk to promote positive behaviors and a just safety culture.
  • Maintaining positive relationships and dialogue with internal and external stakeholders interested in the company's safety and legal compliance (e.g., HSE, DVSA, Local Authorities, Trade Associations).
  • Investigating all incidents and accidents with trained, competent colleagues, escalating serious incidents appropriately, and liaising with emergency services and media when necessary.

About you

  • At least Nebosh Level 3 or equivalent qualification
  • Experience with ISO 45001 and ISO integrated systems, with relevant qualifications
  • Auditing qualifications and experience
  • Environmental Risk qualifications
  • Extensive Accident Investigation experience, including root cause analysis
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to negotiate and influence at senior levels
  • A valid UK driving license (company car may be provided)
