Job Title: Principal Software Engineer – x8

Location: Cowes – We offer flexible working arrangements; please speak to your recruiter about options for this role.

Salary: Up to £68,000 (dependent on skills and experience)

What you’ll be doing:

1. Derive and maintain software requirements from system requirements.
2. Produce and maintain software designs to meet requirements.
3. Use software designs to develop deliverable software solutions.
4. Perform peer reviews and verification of solutions across Maritime Services.
5. Conduct technical reviews, verify, and authorize software engineering designs.
6. Act as a technical lead for software solutions at the sub-system level.
7. Maintain software solutions to address defects and add new functionalities.
8. Support team development to enhance skills and competencies.
9. Create or assist in creating software estimates for sub-systems.

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

• Experience with at least one high-level programming language.
• Experience with high-level design methodologies, such as UML.
• Knowledge of the software lifecycle and models like Waterfall and Agile.
• BEng/BSc in Computer Science or relevant engineering/science discipline.

Desirable:

• Knowledge of software standards (e.g., ISO/IEC/IEEE 12207).
• Knowledge of Ada95.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards it.
• Understanding of configuration management and tools.
• Knowledge of model-based techniques.
