Job Description

Our UK & Ireland business offers a comprehensive portfolio of multidisciplinary engineering skills, with our structural engineers playing a leading role in developing building projects. We are engaged in a wide array of projects, from world-class sporting venues to commercial properties, healthcare, higher education, research facilities, hotels, resorts, and industrial developments, both in the UK and overseas. Examples include:

  • Houses of Parliament, London - Structural refurbishment of Elizabeth Tower (Big Ben) and the Northern Estate Programme.
  • Curragh Racecourse, Ireland - Redevelopment including grandstand construction with a soaring linear roof accommodating 10,000 spectators.
  • Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam - Designing a sustainable new pier and link bridge to accommodate 14 million additional passengers annually.
  • Project North Park, Exeter - A GBP70m research facility housing multiple institutes to foster collaboration and growth in research and teaching.
  • Foreign and Commonwealth Office Seismic Retrofit Programme - Structural investigations and designs to ensure safety and resilience of British embassy buildings worldwide.
  • Crossrail Paddington Arch, London - Designing a steel structure within a Grade I listed building, requiring heritage consents and stakeholder coordination.
  • Al Janoub Stadium, Qatar - A FIFA World Cup stadium with advanced BIM technologies, inspired by Qatar's heritage.
  • Chateau La Coste, Provence - Civil and structural engineering for art galleries designed by renowned architects.

Job Responsibilities

As a graduate with AECOM's Structural Engineering Practice, you will be paired with an experienced engineer who will mentor you through your early career stages. Your responsibilities may include:

  • Assisting in project development through various design stages.
  • Developing analytical and design skills.
  • Producing designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, and working drawings under supervision.
  • Collecting and analyzing data with guidance.
  • Using tools to solve engineering problems.
  • Attending meetings with architects and other professionals.
  • Coordinating with other disciplines within the project team.
  • Working within budget and time constraints.
  • Contributing to hazard reduction.
  • Conducting site visits during construction.
  • Contributing to various projects based on workload.

You will gain hands-on experience on live projects, complemented by training through our ICE-accredited scheme, including seminars and courses on design methods, software, presentation skills, commercial awareness, and health & safety. This training aims to develop your full skill set, confidence, and independence as a structural engineer, with increasing responsibilities and career growth opportunities.
