Salary: From £59,795 + £4,750 Flex Allowance + Up to 20% Bonus + Benefits

Role Overview

The core purpose of this role is to deliver a safe, efficient, and resilient Baggage System—one of the three major flows within the Airport (the others being aircraft and passenger). This involves taking full accountability for the Baggage Systems to ensure high levels of safety, reliability, and availability of this critical infrastructure.

The role requires strong leadership of the maintenance team and effective management of third parties and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

1. Lead and develop the Baggage Engineering team of highly skilled technicians to deliver the maintenance plan.
2. Ensure optimal performance of the baggage asset base, including performance improvements to enhance system availability against OBP / CSS metrics.
3. Drive EH&S culture across all teams to reduce incidents and promote a safe working environment.
4. Produce effective communication and reports to stakeholders such as GAL teams, airlines, and handling agents to enable smooth operation.
5. Manage costs and contracts to ensure adherence to operational budgets.

Candidate Requirements

• Degree level education in an engineering discipline; HND level with significant experience accepted.
• Proven proactive leadership promoting health and safety culture, ensuring processes and procedures protect employees and contractors.
• Experience in leading, managing, and developing baggage teams aligned with Gatwick’s strategic priorities.
• Ability to ensure system performance meets or exceeds OBP and CSS measures.
• Experience leading failure investigations to determine root causes related to baggage system and operational impacts.
