Job description

An excellent opportunity has arisen to join a world-leading global organisation. Our FMCG client, the powerhouse behind brands such as Persil, Surf, Comfort, Domestos, and Cif, is seeking a Laboratory Operational Coordinator at their prestigious Research & Development Facility in Port Sunlight, Wirral.

This full-time, temporary role runs until the end of September 2025, working 37.5 hours per week, with a salary of up to £29,719 per annum, pro-rata, depending on experience.

We invite applications from candidates with a degree in Chemistry or a closely related field who are eager to gain experience in a laboratory setting within a leading global FMCG organisation.

Background

To enhance efficiencies within the Port Sunlight R&D laboratories, a new Operational Excellence Team has been established. This team supports scientists' daily activities, ensuring a safe, efficient, and well-maintained facility, with a focus on implementing new and optimized processes for continual improvement.

Job Purpose

The Laboratory Operational Coordinator provides support to the scientific and engineering teams at Port Sunlight R&D. The ideal candidate will have a keen understanding of laboratory operational requirements to maximize productivity and be skilled in laboratory processes such as formulation, characterization, and performance testing. They will also be adept at following protocols and processes to ensure efficient laboratory operations.

Objectives of this Role
  1. Coordinate the procurement and management of stock items, ensuring proper monitoring and liaising with third-party suppliers.
  2. Maintain stock levels of raw materials, consumables, and PPE in designated areas.
  3. Serve as the first point of contact for new purchase orders and raw material requests.
  4. Provide frontline support to lab and pilot plant users regarding operational procedures, setup, and immediate needs.
  5. Manage materials picklists and related supplies at the point of use in laboratories.
  6. Coordinate with third-party providers to ensure accurate logging of goods received in LIMs.
  7. Maintain dossiers for raw materials and equipment, including SDS, COAs, and equipment passports.
Qualifications
  1. Experience as a laboratory or scientific facilities coordinator and/or pilot plant experience.
  2. Knowledge of management software such as LIMS is advantageous.
  3. Exceptional organizational, time management, and project tracking skills.
  4. Strong communication skills.
  5. Proficiency in IT tools such as Microsoft Office (Excel, Word), with knowledge of Power BI & Power Apps being a plus.
