Senior Test Development Engineer
Location – Glenrothes or Harlow (4 days p/week on site)
12 Month contract – Inside IR35
Copello is working with a leading defence and aerospace company operating across the United Kingdom. You will work for a major supplier to the UK government and global customers, providing defence solutions across land, sea, air, space, and cyberspace.
Primary Purpose of this position
Responsible for designing, manufacturing, verifying, validating, and providing through-life technical support for board-level, sub-system, and system-level test equipment.
Main duties:
- Designing functional test equipment.
- Taking responsibility for the design quality of test equipment and providing leadership and guidance to junior engineers.
- Documenting design specifications and implementation details, participating in design reviews, and upholding design standards and methodologies.
- Realising complex system requirements to develop robust and reliable test hardware solutions.
- Implementing detailed technical items with an understanding of system-level components.
- Collaborating with hardware and software engineers to agree on system designs, interfaces, and protocols.
- Developing test hardware, software, and procedures to verify hardware operation.
- Supporting manufacturing by resolving product queries and technical issues.
- Supporting compliance with Health and Safety legislation and company policies.
- Conducting activities aligned with company values, policies, and ethics.
- Performing other activities as reasonably requested by management.
- Managing engineering-specific risks and opportunities.
- Contributing to resource planning using tools like Microsoft Project.
- Leading test engineering for small to medium-scale programs.
- Contributing to and approving test development processes, including IPDS gates and content.
Knowledge & Experience:
Essential:
- Degree in Electronic Engineering or related field (preferably 2.1 Hons or higher).
- Experience in test software design.
- Strong knowledge of analogue and digital electronic circuit design.
- Ability to produce comprehensive technical design documentation.
- Experience in managing designs through handover to production.
- Excellent hardware troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to support and debug system integration.
- Proficiency with MS Office products.
- Eligibility for MOD Security Clearance to at least SC level.
Highly Desirable:
- Significant industry experience in test development.
- Experience with Mentor Graphics schematic entry and PCB layout tools.
- Understanding of test architectures like PXI/d LXI.
- Knowledge of Measurement Uncertainty in test equipment design and validation.
- Experience with NI LabView, NI CVI, NI TestStand, C#, including software certification or detailed knowledge.
- Designing mixed-signal circuits.
- Knowledge of high-speed serial networks.
- An understanding of RF electronics.
