Following a significant multi million pound investment, Birmingham Business School is recruiting to a number of roles which will help to deliver its core business. The School is a pioneer of business education, established as the country’s first Business School in 1902, we have over 100 years of teaching and research experience.

These posts will enhance the University’s capacity and capability in the area of city-regions, regional and urban economics research and policy. The successful candidates will be recognised authorities in Regional Economic Development, Economic Geography, Regional Economies or Regional Policy, broadly interpreted to include quantitative, modelling, qualitative methodologies and sub-fields that focus on understanding regional issues, including areas which complement or strengthen those of existing colleagues within the City-Region Economic Development Institute (City-REDI). It is anticipated that one of these posts will take the lead in regional econometric modelling.

Professors are required to be academic leaders. The post holders will contribute significantly to the delivery of City-REDI and related School strategies, developing their own research, developing and delivering undergraduate and postgraduate curricula; and contributing to Department, School and University research activities, including PhD supervisions and leadership of research activities.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. PhD in a relevant field and/or professional qualifications utilized in a research role.
  2. International reputation for excellence in research and teaching demonstrated through an outstanding publications record and suitable teaching performance indicators.
  3. Established record of attracting external funding and engagement in knowledge-transfer activities.
  4. Extensive experience of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision to doctoral level.
  5. Skills in managing projects and working collaboratively with fellow scholars.
  6. Experience of working within and leading internal and external networks.
  7. A record as a “good citizen” who recognizes the need to foster collegiate endeavour and a sense of academic fellowship.
