Non Executive Chair, Royal Agricultural Society of England: Closed to new applicants

THE COMPANY

The Royal Agricultural Society of England (RASE) (www.rase.org.uk ) is an independent charity and membership organisation dedicated to supporting the progression of knowledge and innovation within the agricultural community.

Granted a Royal Charter in 1840, it communicates and encourages the use of innovations of real commercial value to farmers. The organisation delivers this directly through research, networks, awards and events, and indirectly through its sister charity Innovation for Agriculture (IFA)

THE ROLE

  • Lead and inspire the Trustees and Chief Executive to fulfil the objectives of the charity and oversee the delivery of its strategy.
  • Act as a highly visible ambassador for the Society across the complex stakeholder environment for Agriculture in England.
  • Foster sustainable development and innovation that reflects its independent and holistic position in the sector.
  • Oversee the management of the assets (property, events and membership growth) of the Society for best effect.

THE CANDIDATE

  • A known and respected leader in the wider Agricultural sector, with real credibility.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills suitable for an ambassadorial role – comfortable with public speaking in multiple environments.
  • Outstanding leadership and management skills, possibly honed in an executive role. Experience of a charity environment will be an advantage.
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering strategies and working in a hands on way when needed with the small team.

There will be an Chair’s allowance available which includes reasonable travel expenses. The role is expected to take c.30 days per year
