Job summary

As a Consultant Psychiatrist in Old Age Psychiatry based in Ashford, you will join a dedicated, professional, and supportive team along with a CMHT Consultant colleague.

Ashford CMHSOP provides comprehensive psychiatric assessment and treatment for the over 65 population in Ashford, Tenterden, and surrounding villages. It offers assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for various psychiatric conditions, including psychological assessments and therapy.

The team has 21 initial assessment slots weekly, with appointments in Ashford and Tenterden clinics, home visits, and care home liaison assessments.

Successful applicants should ideally have MRCPsych or equivalent, be on or within six months of the Specialist Register, fully GMC-registered, with Approved Clinician status and S12 approval under the Mental Health Act (or achieve within 3 months).

Main duties include:
  1. Providing psychiatric care to patients referred to Ashford CMHSOP and offering senior medical leadership within the multidisciplinary team.
  2. Conducting MCA and MHA assessments, attending complex case discussions, CPA, and 117 review meetings, and being available for urgent clinical matters.
  3. Attending daily RED Board and referral triage meetings, weekly clinical meetings, monthly complex case discussions, and governance meetings.
  4. Contributing to team meetings and providing medical guidance through supervision of complex cases.
  5. Supporting the team in maintaining MSNAP accreditation for the Memory Assessment Service.
