This role would suit Directors currently working within a disputes consultancy, and can demonstrate extensive quantum experience.
Candidates for Director level construction dispute appointments will have a well-established network of legal professionals and will be able to use their network to develop and generate new dispute work for their employer.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Lead the drafting of detailed expert witness reports for use in formal dispute resolution proceedings.
- Develop contract and commercial strategies to recover performance of distressed projects or major programmes in line with client outcomes.
- Review and assess project records to establish quantum related to claims and disputes.
- Conduct quantum forensic analysis of tender, contract, and claims documentation.
- Manage stakeholders effectively at all levels, including chairing meetings with clients and advisors.
- Analyze project performance to identify root causes of distress.
- Provide strategic advice throughout the construction lifecycle.
- Proactively manage cash flow.
- Develop and pursue claims within the supply chain.
- Research emerging industry technologies and stay updated within your technical area.
- Support and guide junior staff on specific tasks.
- Coordinate with clients and consultants at all project stages.
- Secure and deliver new work for the employer.
- Represent the company and promote its services in the industry.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Over 10 years of relevant experience in construction and engineering.
- Experience working on claims and disputes in major or complex projects, with roles in QS, contract administration, or engineering prior to specializing in Quantum.
- Familiarity with dispute proceedings and claims management.
- Ability to lead disputes, testify, and handle cross-examination.
- Experience in conducting detailed Quantum Forensic Analysis.
- Proven ability to attract and develop new clients.
- Knowledge of contracts like NEC, JCT, and FIDIC.
- Familiarity with relevant industry applications such as BCIS, Cost-X, CEMAR.
- Experience leading claims through the supply chain to successful resolution.
- Strong report writing skills, with evidence of prior reports being highly valued.
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or related construction field.
- Master’s degree in construction law or a similar discipline is highly desirable.
- Ideally MRICS, MInstCES, or equivalent, or working towards Chartership.
