Overview:

Role Overview: The Patient Care Technician provides patient care, supports activities of daily living, takes vital signs, assists with mobility and ambulation, performs phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and Foley catheter insertion and removal. They ensure patient safety under the supervision of a registered nurse, observe patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions, document findings accurately and promptly, and report any changes to medical staff.

Department Overview: Join our 25-bed Postpartum unit, specializing in high-risk mother/baby care. We welcome both new and experienced candidates to grow with our team!

Education Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required) and one of the following:
  • Sentara Care Partner Certification Program, or
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), or
  • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), or
  • National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT), or
  • US Navy Hospital Corps School Completion, or
  • Emergency Services (EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT, Paramedic), or
  • Current student in a clinical program (beyond prerequisites) with at least one semester completed in RN, LPN, RT, or PT, or
  • Recent (within last three years) experience as a PCT or Nursing Assistant.

Certification/Licensure:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
