Our client is a leading advanced engineering company pioneering lighter materials technology within the Aerospace industry.
Due to increased demand, they are now looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team.
Essential Job Functions / Responsibilities
- Design and engineer high-performance aerospace components and structures from concept stage, through to detailed design for manufacture.
- Prepare, present and report technical work to peers and customers at design reviews.
- Create piece part drawings from 3D models to enable manufacture of tooling and components.
- Manage configuration of all designs (control of BOM).
- Collate data and produce reports as required.
- Carry out technical analysis including thermal, stress (including non-linear) and buckling analysis using finite element codes and analytical techniques.
- Develop the company’s design and stress analysis capability.
Qualifications
- BEng or MEng in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related degree, or equivalent relevant industry experience.
- Applicants are expected to be Chartered engineers or follow a path leading to Chartered status.
Knowledge and Experience
- 5+ years postgraduate experience in Aerospace, Automotive, or similar environment.
- Experience in using hand calculations to solve basic mechanical design problems.
- Excellent understanding of mechanical and thermal properties of engineering materials, tolerances, engineering drawing standards, and manufacturing techniques.
- Flexible and innovative design thinking, capable of creating robust design solutions and critiquing own ideas.
- High proficiency in CAD software, preferably SolidWorks.
- Knowledge of DfM and DfA principles and manufacturing technologies such as CNC, casting, sheet metal, moulding, and rapid prototyping.
- Ability to quickly understand new technical concepts.
- Experience in design and analysis of aerospace components and structures.
- Experience with commercial finite element codes.
- Project and contract management experience.
- Experience working within experimental design teams or on development programs.
- Experience in design, development, testing, and NDT of composite materials.
- Familiarity with standards like AS9100 or ECSS.
