Job description

With a passion for wildlife and access, you’ll enjoy working with nature and want to inspire and motivate others. You’ll help to make a range of important habitats for wildlife even better for nature and make everyone feel welcome at our places.

The project aims to restore 500 hectares of habitats, reconnect fragmented ecosystems, and empower people from all backgrounds to train in nature recovery. Trainees and volunteers will gain hands-on experience at a new hub, hosted at Ty Mawr farm, which will also help the wider community connect with nature through countryside skills.

Mae’r cyfieithiad Cymraeg o’r hysbyseb hwn ar gael yn llawn yn y PDF atodedig.

This is a great opportunity to drive an ambitious project funded by the Nature Networks Fund, which will greatly improve habitats for nature, offer opportunities for people to develop skills in the countryside sector, and inspire more people to get outside.

Based in our estate office in Libanus, you’ll cover a range of sites across the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park. This is a part-time opportunity offering 22.5 hours per week and a 31-month fixed-term contract.

This role is available from August 2025; however, we may consider an earlier start date to fit the successful candidate’s availability.

This project is funded by the Nature Networks Programme. It is being delivered by the Heritage Fund, on behalf of the Welsh Government.

What it's like to work here

You’ll join an upbeat and dynamic team, passionate about nature, and creating an inclusive and progressive place to work, visit, and volunteer.

You’ll play a key role in the Bannau Brycheiniog portfolio, which covers a large area in south Wales, stretching from Rhaeadr in mid Wales to Gower on the south coast.

What you'll be doing

As Project Manager, you’ll be responsible for managing the project team and ensuring the project achieves its ambitious targets. You’ll run the Project Board and collaborate with the local team, national specialists, and partners such as NRW and Bannau Brycheiniog National Park. You’ll be moving the project from planning to implementation.

You don't need to have all the knowledge, skills, and experience listed in the role profile; this is just to provide a full picture of what’s possible in this role.

Who we're looking for:

  • Successful experience leading projects through all stages and across all areas of project management, including procurement and matrix management.
  • A proven track record of developing projects with clients and stakeholders to meet objectives and outcomes.
  • Experience working on high-value Heritage Lottery or similarly funded projects.
  • Experience collaborating with external partners in project development and delivery.
  • A confident communicator, capable of working with diverse internal and external audiences.
  • Effective at managing your time, costs, and quality within a busy and varied workload, with some experience managing small projects.
  • Championing inclusion and ensuring everyone feels welcome.

The package

The National Trust’s motto is ‘For everyone, forever’. We are committed to fostering an inclusive culture where everyone feels they belong. We value diversity and aim for our teams to reflect and represent the communities we serve. We welcome and celebrate differences, and we want everyone to feel at home in our teams.

  • Free entry to National Trust places for you, a guest, and your children (under 18)
  • Rental deposit loan scheme
  • Season ticket loan
  • EV car lease scheme
  • Perks at work discounts, including gym memberships, shopping discounts, and cinema deals
  • Holiday entitlement up to 32 days, plus holiday purchase scheme, subject to criteria
  • Flexible working arrangements whenever possible
