Purpose of the Role:

A Bulky Waste Operative handles the collection, transportation, and disposal of large waste items unsuitable for regular collection, such as furniture, appliances, and mattresses.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collect and safely remove bulky waste from residential and commercial properties, ensuring proper storage at the depot.
  • Tipp at approved refuse facilities, load and unload waste in compliance with policies, procedures, training, and legal requirements, adhering to health and safety standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness of vehicles and equipment.
  • Follow all health and safety protocols, including safe lifting practices and wearing personal protective equipment.
  • Use mobile IT devices and complete daily paperwork accurately.
  • Undertake necessary training to perform duties effectively.
  • Provide information to the public about Bristol Waste procedures politely and professionally.
  • Coordinate with line managers and office staff, supporting operational needs and contributing to business growth through customer relations and reporting opportunities.
  • Work flexibly across various services and locations, including Hartcliffe, Avonmouth, and Albert Road depots, and perform other reasonable tasks.
  • Follow all reporting procedures.
Essential Requirements:
  • Ability to demonstrate suitability for physically demanding tasks involving pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 25kg.
  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively.
  • Teamwork skills.
  • Proficiency with IT systems.
  • Flexible approach to work assignments.
