Job summary

Sport and Leisure Modern Apprenticeship (2 x Gym and 1 x Lifeguard) - Various Locations Within South Ayrshire

South Ayrshire Council offers a range of employability opportunities to support individuals in gaining experience, training, and employment. This programme is part of the council’s youth employability initiative, aimed at providing career development for young people in South Ayrshire. Applicants must meet specific criteria before the start date of 21st July 2025:

• 19 years of age or under
• 29 years of age or under and be a care-experienced young person
• 29 years of age or under and have additional support needs

The assessment centre and interviews will be held on 10 June 2025 at the Citadel in Ayr.

You may apply for up to two posts:

• Post A – Gym Attendant (Citadel, Ayr x2)

This role involves assisting staff in the gym, delivering inductions to new members, and, when qualified, leading fitness classes such as spin, evolve, and circuits. Responsibilities also include cleaning the facility and providing excellent customer service.

• Post B – Leisure Attendant (Maybole)

This role includes working towards your NPLQ Lifeguard qualification, supervising the poolside, maintaining the pool area, and delivering customer service. There is also an opportunity to work with the swim team and work towards a swim teacher’s qualification.

Requirements

This position is considered regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the PVG Scheme. The successful candidate will need to join or update their PVG Scheme membership before an offer of employment. Further information is available at www.disclosurescotland.co.uk. Additional Information

This is a temporary position until 20/07/2026. The grade is Modern Apprentice.

Pay Rates:

• Under 18: £7.55
• 18-20: £10.00
• 21 and over: £12.21

The work style is classified as Frontline worker.
