Role: DevOps Engineer

Department: Digital, Data and Technology Team

Location: Carbrook, Sheffield

Salary: £36,630 - £41,907

Hours: 37

Contract Type: Permanent

We have an exciting opportunity for a DevOps Engineer to join the Digital, Data and Technology Team on a permanent basis. This role involves managing tools and testing environments, central code control, maintaining development standards, and writing software that automates systems to enhance policing operations.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Underpin good development processes, including managing tools and testing environments.
  2. Write software that automates systems and processes.
  3. Maintain central code control and development standards.
  4. Work with other team members, including developers, IT staff, and police officers, to develop and maintain software solutions.
  5. Identify and resolve issues that are preventing delivery and ensure smooth operation of software systems.

Skills And Experience

  • Programming and Build: Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or similar.
  • Automation Tools: Experience with automation tools like Jenkins, Ansible, or similar.
  • Cloud Services: Knowledge of cloud services such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Infrastructure as Code: Familiarity with infrastructure as code tools like Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Security: Understanding of information security practices and controls.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity. A minimum checkable history of 5 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
