Job Description:

Global Market Leader seeks a Mid to Senior Level Linux Systems Administrator / DevOps Engineer to join their small team of engineers and sysadmins.

This is a superb role with significant scope for progression, leading to a long-term career path.

The role is office-based (Head office is in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire, with easy access from Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, London, Middlesex, and parts of Bedfordshire).

Please note: Some security clearance is required. You should have been a UK resident for at least the past few years and have the right to work in the UK. The timeframe is ideally 4 years, but there is some scope for 2-3 years.

The role

You should be committed to quality, detail-oriented, and a team player.

You will be responsible for deployment, configuration, and maintenance of systems, with opportunities to assist with server-related tasks company-wide and collaborate on new solutions with the lead sysadmin and software team.

The role requires a background in infrastructure implementation with practical experience in delivering technical solutions.

Responsibilities (may include some or most of these as you grow into the role):

  • Setup and configure new/existing database systems with master/slave replication
  • Conduct problem analysis and generate case documentation for escalation
  • Backup databases and logs
  • Manage IT ticket queue and document procedures/policies
  • Manage servers and infrastructure (mainly Linux, some Windows)
  • Implement security policies
  • Maintain and extend monitoring, metrics, and alerting systems using Site24x7
  • Provide on-call support and escalation as per rota

Key Skills (understanding of some or most):

  • Excellent scripting skills in Bash or similar
  • Some programming knowledge, ideally PHP (not essential)
  • AWS experience, preferably with a developer or related qualification (not essential)
  • Experience with other clouds (Google, Azure)
  • Networking experience, limited to cloud networking (not switches)
  • Automation experience (Ansible, GitLab runners, etc.)
  • Management skills are not required
