Job description

Equans is seeking a Mechanical Manager to join our team at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. This is a full-time, permanent role working 37.5 hours per week, offering a competitive salary and excellent benefits.

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Manager to lead the mechanical service delivery for systems including Ventilation (LEVs, Fire Dampers), Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, Boilers, Generators, Water Systems, and more. You will oversee essential building services across a healthcare estate, ensuring performance, compliance, and safety to support patient care.

Responsibilities
  1. Manage planned and reactive maintenance for all mechanical systems, ensuring compliance with SLAs and KPIs.
  2. Oversee health & safety for the mechanical team and service partners, including Toolbox Talks.
  3. Serve as the primary contact for escalations and technical issues.
  4. Maintain relationships with stakeholders, ensuring effective communication.
  5. Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory standards, including SHTMs.
  6. Support HR processes, team development, and performance management.
  7. Contribute to project technical input and asset lifecycle planning.
  8. Produce management reports with data insights.
  9. Mentor and develop the mechanical team, promoting best practices and a collaborative culture.

Candidate Requirements
  • Apprenticeship or training in HVAC systems, with relevant experience
  • Formal technical and management qualifications
  • Management or supervisory experience
  • Healthcare environment experience (advantageous)
  • Appointed Persons Status (or ability to obtain AP (Vent))
  • Knowledge of standards including SHTMs
  • Membership of relevant bodies (e.g., IHEEM)
  • Health & Safety qualifications (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Disclosure Scotland check
