NHS England is seeking a National Clinical Director in Women’s Health to provide clinical oversight and drive transformation in women's health care. The role focuses on secondary care and specialist aspects of gynaecology, collaborating with various stakeholders to improve health outcomes for women. This position requires leadership, clinical expertise, and a commitment to addressing health inequalities.
With the launch of the Women’s Health Strategy in July 2022, the Department of Health (DH) tasked NHS England to deliver specific policy commitments. This post is designed to provide clinical oversight and drive transformation in women’s health care, supporting the NCD and Deputy Director. The main focus will be on secondary care and specialist aspects of gynaecology, including addressing elective care waits, involving collaboration with NHS England teams and external system partners at national, regional, and local levels.
The NHS health and care system serves all populations, with 51% of the population facing obstacles to accessing care. The 2014 Chief Medical Officer’s annual report highlighted widening disparities affecting girls and women during their adolescent, reproductive, and post-reproductive years. These issues remain relevant today.
