Role of the Coastal Design Engineer

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Managing a team to undertake technical design work following relevant standards and codes, ensuring high-quality outputs.
  2. Preparing briefs, scopes of work, and contributing to bid proposals.
  3. Managing time and budgets effectively to meet project milestones and deadlines.
  4. Collaborating with teams in the UK and overseas to deliver integrated design solutions.
  5. Adhering to quality assurance standards in design processes.
Candidate Requirements
  • Chartered Civil Engineer.
  • Experience in design delivery, including multidisciplinary projects.
  • Knowledge of ocean waves, tidal theory, extreme value statistics, nearshore wave processes, and sediment transport.
  • Experience designing coastal structures such as flood defenses, sea walls, breakwaters, revetments, and beaches, following standards like BS6349, EurOtop manual, and rock manual.
  • Ability to plan and oversee the use of numerical modeling for wave propagation, tidal flows, hydrodynamics, etc.
