Job overview

The Royal London hospital is looking to recruit Band 3 Healthcare Support Workers (HCSW) to join our critical care and surgical teams on our Surgical High Dependency Unit.

This is a 12 bedded high dependency unit caring for complex elective surgical patients from multiple specialties. These include Neuro, Trauma, Hepatobiliary, Colorectal, Gynae-Oncology, Vascular, ENT, and Maxillo-Facial amongst others.

We are looking to appoint enthusiastic and motivated HCSWs looking for and exciting new challenge.

Working conditions

·Full time / part time

·Internal rotation to days and nights (Monday to Sunday)

We provide a structured supernumerary orientation programme to meet your individual needs and offer opportunities to advance your interest in specialist areas.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to work as a team member of the ACCU under the direction of qualified nurses, assisting in the maintenance of a safe, clean and comfortable unit environment.

The Post Holder will assist the qualified nurse in most aspects of patient care but will not be responsible or accountable for patient care.

Person specification

Qualifications

  • -Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
  • -Evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • -NVQ Level 2/3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent qualification).
  • -Care Certificate Standards
  • -Relevant clinical training (e.g. venepuncture, ECG, catheter care)

Experience

  • -Experience working in healthcare environment dealing with patients and relatives.
  • -Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • -Experience working providing care in hospital or care setting
  • -Experience working in a high-dependency, surgical or acute care setting.
  • -Experience taking and recording clinical observations
  • -Involvement in supporting patients recovery.

Knowledge

  • -Awareness of infection control principles.
  • -Knowledge of patient confidentiality and data protection.
  • -Awareness of safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • -Knowledge of the role of a surgical high dependency unit and patient pathways.
