We are seeking a Research Associate with expertise in evolutionary biology and population genetics to join our research group in the Ecology & Evolutionary Biology Research Cluster, School of Biosciences, University of Sheffield.
Our group investigates the drivers of reproductive success and failure in wild animal populations, focusing on egg-laying vertebrates. We utilize approaches such as field experiments, observational studies, long-term population monitoring, laboratory fertility and embryology analyses, and quantitative genetics.
In this project, you will apply your quantitative genetics and data analysis skills to study reproductive trade-offs in a threatened bird species, using a unique long-term breeding and pedigree dataset. You will collaborate with colleagues at the Zoological Society of London, University of Auckland (New Zealand), and Hihi Recovery Group/New Zealand Department of Conservation.
The ideal candidate will hold a PhD/DPhil (or equivalent postdoctoral experience) in evolutionary biology, population genetics, or a related discipline. They will have strong quantitative genetics skills, experience analyzing long-term population data, and a proven ability to work independently. Publications in peer-reviewed journals and experience managing research projects from conception to dissemination are essential.

Grade: 7
Salary: £38,249 - £39,355 per annum
Work arrangement: Full-time, with flexible/part-time options considered.
Duration: 01 September 2025 to 28 February 2027
