Closing date and time: Monday 8 July 2019 (09:00 UK time)

About us
The British Council is the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities. We create friendly knowledge and understanding between the people of the UK and other countries. We do this by making a positive contribution to the UK and the countries we work with - changing lives by creating opportunities, building connections and engendering trust.

About Arts in the British Council
Through our work in Arts we find new ways of connecting with and understanding each other to develop stronger creative sectors around the world. Our expert team in the UK and around the world works to five broad aims: to share UK arts with the world; to foster collaborations and networks; to build capacity in creative sectors; to foster social change; and to support the shaping of policy and research. This cultural exchange helps create modern and vibrant creative sectors, building connections, trust and opportunity. It can also help to bring together divided communities and people affected by conflict.

The opportunity
The British Council Publishing Fellowship is a new programme connecting talented individuals working in publishing in the UK and overseas, and has been developed in collaboration with industry leaders within the global marketplace. The first edition will run for 12 months from September 2019. Twelve publishers from Georgia, Turkey, Ukraine and the UK will gain deep insights into new markets and develop international networks through a series of online meet-ups and international study visits.

We are seeking to engage an experienced literature/publishing professional to support the programme for 12 months, beginning 2 September 2019. The consultant will co-ordinate the UK-based elements of the Publishing Fellowship, which includes programming and hosting a five-day professional visit for six international publishers to the UK in February 2020. You would be required to bring specialist knowledge and expertise in publishing and project/event management to the role, and liaise closely with British Council arts managers in the UK, Georgia, Ukraine and Turkey.

Fees
We expect to receive tenders for this work in the region of £10-11,000 including VAT. Additional days or payment should be agreed in writing with the British Council in advance. This assignment is out of scope of IR35 legislation. All our consultants are classified as non-permanent workforce (NPW) and not managed by the British Council. An external agency provides the payroll to NPWs, who are employed on a PAYE basis (including self-employed) or as a Limited Company.

To apply
Prospective applicants are asked to submit a CV and covering letter outlining the sector skills and experience you would bring to the commission to uk-literature@britishcouncil.org.

Closing date for submissions is Monday 8 July 2019. Interviews to be held Thursday 25 July 2019.
