Art and DT Technician

Mainstream Secondary School

We are working with a 'Good' Ofsted-rated mainstream secondary school in Westminster that is currently looking to recruit a Art and DT Technician who is competent and experienced. It is essential to have an understanding of various areas of Design Technology, including Art, Resistant Materials, Graphics, and Food Technology. Knowledge of specialist equipment and all catering equipment, along with food preparation skills, is beneficial. This is a short-term supply position.

This role involves working within the DT department, liaising with department heads and teachers, and assisting pupils of various ages and abilities from Key Stage 3 to 5, ensuring staff and students are supported during practical sessions.

Art and DT Technician Responsibilities:

• Prepare apparatus, tools, and materials, and set up equipment for practical classes.
• Set up and occasionally carry out demonstrations.
• Maintain stock levels of apparatus and tools, including managing stock records and carrying out stock checks.
• Retrieve and clean apparatus/tools after use; launder tea towels, oven gloves, and washing-up cloths.
• Place and process orders, ensuring spending aligns with Faculty policy.

Art and DT Technician Requirements:

• Previous support work within a school or relevant child-related experience.
• Strong food technology and catering skills and experience.
• A firm presence and effective behaviour management skills.
• Experience supporting individuals or groups, including one-to-one, small groups, or whole classes.
• Professional, proactive, engaging, and empathetic manner.
• Enthusiastic, friendly, patient, and determined approach.
