We are seeking a committed and motivated Specialty Doctor in Psychiatry to join our dynamic mental health team at HMP Bronzefield, the largest women's prison in Europe. This is an opportunity to deliver meaningful care in a unique setting—supporting some of the most vulnerable individuals in society.

About the Role

As the Specialty Doctor, you will play a vital role in delivering psychiatric care within the prison. Working closely with a multidisciplinary team, you will assess, diagnose, and manage a variety of mental health conditions. The role offers clinical variety and professional challenges in a secure setting where your input will be valued and impactful.

We are looking for a doctor who is:

  • Clinically competent with a solid grounding in general adult psychiatry

  • Motivated to provide high-quality, compassionate care to a diverse population

Experience in forensic or prison psychiatry is welcome but not essential; we support development and learning.

Main duties of the job

  1. Assessment (including risk assessment), treatment, care planning, and multiagency liaison for individuals with mental health issues in prisons.
  2. CPA management of care.
  3. Undertake Mental Capacity Assessments.
  4. Contribute to planned emergency interventions.
  5. Liaise with prisons, courts, statutory, and non-statutory agencies concerning mental health care management.
  6. Assessment and recommendations under the 2007 (Revised) Mental Health Act (the post holder must maintain Section 12 approval).
  7. Work closely with managers, psychologists, and other professionals to provide clinical leadership and ensure safe, supportive care.
  8. Liaise with medical, clinical, and managerial staff to provide high-quality care pathways.
  9. Participate in ACCT (self-harm/suicide prevention) processes when relevant.
  10. Practice in accordance with NICE guidelines and Trust policies.
  11. Maintain accurate records according to Trust and professional standards, including data protection legislation and information governance.
