Job description

Our client is looking for an experienced Education Manager to lead their amazing team based on-site at HMP Wayland, Thetford, in Norfolk.

As an Education Manager, your role will be to lead and manage the Prison Education Framework (PEF) and a staff group to maximise contract performance, deliver quality provision and exceed the expectations of partners and learners to help improve people's lives.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Maximise contract performance by fully understanding contractual obligations and performance targets, delivering the agreed curriculum and meeting quality assurance targets.
  2. Develop the curriculum in line with needs of the prison population, local labour market and employer.
  3. Ensure quality assurance and quality improvement processes and procedures are in place and that they develop and sustain a culture of continuous service improvement.
  4. Agree and set targets with staff members to ensure both financial and contractual obligations are met and exceeded.
  5. Effectively plan and control income and expenditure to ensure a profitable business by maximising contract performance.
  6. Ensure that all contracts are run in accordance with external and internal procedures, e.g. achieving low risk external and internal audits and accurate and timely claims.
  7. Recruit, manage, develop, and maintain discipline of staff employed in the department.
  8. Take responsibility for health, safety and wellbeing of staff and learners, maintenance, and security of the department in line with prison and company policy.
  9. Adhere to Safeguarding policies.
  10. Maintain and develop positive internal and external partnerships. Attend meetings with local partners as required.
  11. Promote equality of opportunity for staff and learners in all activities.
  12. Identify development opportunities by sourcing and securing new leads in order to expand the income streams for the department.
  13. Remain flexible; duties can vary at times dependent upon contractual and/or organisational requirements and location.
Person Specification:
  1. Relevant first degree and/or professional qualification, teaching qualification.
  2. The ability to demonstrate experience of successful curriculum development and change.
  3. Persuasive and supportive leadership and staff management skills to successfully manage performance and develop an achievement-focused team of teaching staff.
  4. Excellent communication skills and a creative and flexible approach towards achieving objectives and deadlines.
  5. The ability to influence others and through a proactive style encourages innovation and problem solving through your team.
